Making Space for Collaborative Innovation

Burning Man has contributed a modest grant support to [freespace], a radically collaborative space launched in San Francisco in 2013, inspired by the National Day of Civic Hacking, and fueled by a gift of real estate for a single dollar. The [freespace] movement is an ongoing experiment that creates gathering places where people can come together to create, teach, learn, and share the things they are passionate about, and to strengthen the connections between people and communities through art, events, and long-term projects. Each [freespace] is an open building that provides freedom, community, and creative permission for makers, hackers and artists of all stripes. Within a year it has become a global movement, with [freespace] facilities open or planned in dozens of locations worldwide.
